Story behind our duck...

Our name, The Winged Foundation, comes from the Canadian Duck Name: Blue-winged Teal, who are long-distance migrants during the winter, all the way from Canada to Colombia.

Our duck represents our vision. When they spread their wings, they demonstrate to us that it is possible to dream that Colombian Children will have the opportunity to do it as well. With a life purpose. With an essence to give back to our country after they have received the support to break poverty cycles.

Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. The region of Vaupes is currently among the regions with the most alarming dropouts from schools year over year. Factors like connectivity, transport, and hunger among others, are crucial for children, resulting in not having the possibility to attend school, and dropping out to assist their indigenous community instead.

At The Winged Foundation, we believe we can assist in improving this unfortunate problem, not only because it is a universal human right, but because our Colombian children and youth deserve to be supported from the early stages of life. Deserve to learn and be educated so that they can be the leaders of tomorrow with an integral and social life purpose. That, like our duck, can fly elsewhere to find the best versions of themselves, and return afterwards to inspire others.
